The First Letter
Dear family,
I thought that perhaps it would be good if I shared with you what is going on concerning our mission call.
We will be serving in Paragould, AK, which is located in the north eastern part of Arkansas. It is the 19th largest city in Arkansas and is 88 miles from Memphis, TN. The church doesn't even rate a mark on the religion scale. The Southern Baptist is the church that most people who live there attend and this is the famed Bible Belt area. We will be trying to help make the branch into a ward. At least that was what we have been told. Paragould is the home to four colleges so I guess it could be said that that is what makes the money in that area.
We have an apartment that we will be living in. Apparently there is already a set of missionaries living in the same apartment complex. The financial missionary told us that they will have our apartment furnished when we get there but we might have to buy a few things at Walmart. He told us that there is a Walmart in just about every town and apparently there are a lot of little towns all around Paragould. Members who live in the little towns come to church in Paragould. We will be going to Memphis for Zone Conferences and we were told to bring temple clothes because we will be attending the temple in Memphis. There is a chapel in Paragould, so that is nice.
We have to report to the MTC on September 30th between 10:00- 11:00 am. We are leaving here Saturday and spending that night with Sharon and then Sunday night we will be spending the night with my cousin who lives in Orem.
As it stands right now we will be speaking September 15th. We meet at 10:30 am for Sacrament meeting. You are invited to come and share this time with us if you would like. There will be dinner after church.
We still have lots to do and the list that we made is getting longer instead of smaller.
